The opportunity to explore ‘better’ ways of managing the street sex industry and the associated distresses in Ipswich arose due to the events in the latter part of 2006. If something positive was to come out of such a tragic turn of events then the need to discover what can be done to improve the situation of those that participate in such a desperate and dangerous activity was imperative. However, we have to acknowledge that prior to the events that occurred in late 2006 the services available for individuals involved in street prostitution fell short of providing adequate support in many areas, specifically the ability to offer effective and safe routes out of this activity.
