New direction and change of name

In 2010 Iceni introduced a small scale family service, which represented a refocusing of supporting individuals struggling with an addiction to a “parent-centred practice with children-centred outcomes.”  It is a new approach for Suffolk and very different to what has gone before. We propose to build on the success of the pilot scheme which operated through 2011 and have recently commissioned New Philanthropy Capital to carry out an external review to formally measure the impact we make both financially and socially.

Through this period of operational change we took the opportunity to look at where we were as an organisation, including the repositioning of our strategy, the markets we operate in and governance arrangements.

Whilst keeping the same principles that have helped us to grow and improve as an organisation over the past 13 years we have made changes at every level. As of the 2nd April 2012 “The Iceni Project” no longer exists as an entity. It feels like a fresh start and with this in mind a new charitable organisation with a new charity number has taken its place and is simply named “Iceni Ipswich”.

Our service is available to any parents or family within Suffolk, however, the majority (78%) of families this year have come from Ipswich and the Felixstowe areas. Whilst we will explore ways of becoming more accessible to those who live in rural areas of the county we have to acknowledge that the majority of our current work concentrates on areas where high levels of deprivation and poverty exist and where many deeply troubled families reside.

The new name change will take effect from today.  Our beneficiaries and stakeholders were involved in helping to freshen our image and brand and it is these people who hopefully will benefit most from the changes we have introduced.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Iceni over the past 18 months. Such support re-enforces our commitment to reducing the number of children who end up in statutory care because of parental addiction. Keeping families together is a pivotal aim and the support both financial and other from many of you means we can continue in this vein.

Please do contact us if you require any further information regarding the changes we have made and our further intentions.
