Prostitution- It won’t go away
Written by Brian TobinThe opportunity to explore ‘better’ ways of managing the street sex industry and the associated distresses in Ipswich arose due to the events in the latter part of 2006. If something positive was to come out of such a tragic turn of events then the need to discover what can be done to improve the situation of those that participate in such a desperate and dangerous activity was imperative. However, we have to acknowledge that prior to the events that occurred in late 2006 the services available for individuals involved in street prostitution fell short of providing adequate support in many areas, specifically the ability to offer effective and safe routes out of this activity.

Charity of the Year
If your company has a Charity of the Year, please consider nominating us.
Nominating Iceni as your Charity of the Year is a great way for your whole company to come together and work towards raising money for an organisation that works with families in overcoming addiction in the heart of our communities. Iceni are committed to keeping families together and, with your support, we trust that you will share our vision to realise a better future for children in these families – whose life chances can be adversely affected by problems their family experiences, such as addiction, poverty, worklessness, poor health and housing.
We have an experienced, committed team that will support you at every step to make the most of the partnership.
Iceni successful bid for government transitional funding
Iceni, big thanks to "Our Society"
We recently received the wonderful news that our bid to the government's transitional fund was successful. However, without the support locally from so many Iceni would not be in such a position to move forward with renewed optimism. This money coupled with the pledges of support and the generous donations from all sectors of Ipswich and Suffolk will give us some breathing space to explore other routes of funding that can assist in becoming a more sustainability organisation. It is now up to us to do our bit and ensure this support creates a long lasting resource for the people and communities who need our support. Our aim is to build a revenue base for the future from different sources and we are commencing this task immediately.
Family Services
Working with Families in the heart of the community.
A NEW APPROACH
Our experience of working with families in a drug treatment setting raised significant issues of accessibility and stigma. The second major challenge was around involving families in appropriate treatment environments. Family based drugs services normally offer couple counselling or a group activity, whilst useful in their own right they are interventions rather than a service and rarely take into consideration the concept of the family as a “whole”.
